The Do’s and Don’ts for Planning a Honeymoon

Expenses

Do:

Set a budget when planning for your honeymoon. It is a once in a lifetime experience, but do you want to be paying it off for it for the rest of your life?

Do:

Pack the essentials when you leave on your honeymoon, because purchasing a pack of over-priced essentials will put a dent into your vacation fund.

Do:

When scheduling your reservations make sure to tell them you are newlyweds! A lot of hotels and activities will offer some kind of package or discount!

Don’t:

Don’t wait too long to book where you will be staying, the sooner you do it, the cheaper it will be.

Do:

Even though you are planning on a budget, don’t do it solely on price alone. Just because the price may seem right, doesn’t mean it’s right for you.

Don’t:

When going on a cruise, the cheapest cabin is not necessarily the best option. Even if it can fit 2 passengers, it could mean it’s a bunk bed and not a queen bed.

Don’t:

Don’t spend too much money on your wedding so you have a small budget for a honeymoon. If you were to ask a group of people if they would rather have a small-not fancy wedding so they could have the honeymoon of their dreams, vs a huge wedding. Most people will go with the latter.

Do:

If you choose to go on a cruise for your honeymoon, buy the drink’s package. It will end up saving you lots of money in the long run.

Don’t:

Don’t forget to check for price drops, it can apply to both hotels and cruises.

DOUBLE CHECK YOUR FLIGHT TIMES. Nuhuh, no arguing. Check them! Check them the week before, the night before, the day of. Check. Them.

Don’t:

Don’t forget to buy a portable phone charger, you’ll thank me later!

Emergency

Do:

Make a crystal clear copy of your ID or Passport and email it to yourself so you have access to it on your phone in case you lose your actual passport or ID.

Do:

Be ready for an emergency! Pack a small first aid kit in your luggage.

Don’t:

Don’t forget to write down your reservation details, somehow, someway people will always lose it. Write it in your phone notes as back up!

Preparation

Don’t:

Don’t forget to visit your doctor and see which vaccinations you should get before going abroad. Getting sick on your honeymoon won’t be fun!

Don’t:

Don’t forget to research the weather for your destination. A tropical place may seem like a perfect getaway, unless it’s during monsoon season . . .

Family & Friends

Don’t:

You may find your parents or friends pressuring you to go to their previous honeymoon destination, don’t let them get to you! If you have your heart set on somewhere then go there and do what makes you happy!

Don’t:

Don’t let a family member take over your honeymoon plans. They are your plans, don’t let your mother-in law talk you into letting her do it. Why? Because her tastes may not be the same as yours.
