Destination Wedding Vs Local Weddings

Some people’s dream wedding takes place in a few states away, while others have dreams of having a wedding in Italy or Paris! And for some, they want a small wedding just in their backyard. When it comes to deciding what course of action to take whether it be a wedding in the same city or in a different country, there are pro’s and con’s to each of them!

Destination Wedding Planning

For Destination Weddings there are so many variables that come into play.

Location

Pro: The location you choose will be unique and beautiful!

Con: Destination weddings tend to be more casual affairs than local weddings.

Pro: Since the scenery will be so different, unique and relaxing, so you and your guests will feel like you are on vacation. It will only contribute to the wedding experience!

Price

Pro: If you plan to have an elopement, the cost won’t be too expensive so you won’t have to worry too much about paying for lots of guests.

Con: If you were wanting a larger guest list, then you will have to keep a budget in mind in how much you are willing to spend on your guests.

Family and Guests

Pro: By having a small wedding, it can be more intimate.

Con: Your duty as hosts will become a lot harder. You have limited time to interact with the guests since they will only be in town for a few days. So this means that you need to take the time to make sure they are comfortable and entertained for their stay, that is unless they have plans to explore on their own!

Con: When it comes to wedding gifts, you shouldn’t expect too much or extravagant presents because your guests may have already spent a lot of money on plane tickets and other travel expenses. So they may feel that their presence at your wedding is a their gift to you.

Planning

Con: Destination weddings have to be planned long distance, which means that each and every detail may not turn out exactly as desired.

Local Wedding Planning Vs Destination Wedding

Local Weddings also have their Pros and Cons!

Location

Pro: When picking out your dream venue, you are able to see the venue first hand. You will also be able to do a walk through of the venue prior to making any big decisions and see if you can picture yourself having your wedding there. Unlike a destination wedding, the best you could get would be getting a virtual tour.

Con: Weather will become a huge factor, for example if you want an outdoor wedding, make sure you take into account the different weather patterns throughout the year. For example, if you are having and outdoor wedding in the middle of winter, make sure that location is suitable for you and your guests.

Price

Pro: Since the wedding is local, you won’t have to worry about extra expenses or any fees that may come with a destination wedding.

Con: If you want to have a wedding very close to home, you may not have many options and have to pay the high prices.

Family and Guests

Pro: Since you are having it local, then you can have as many guests as you want. Guests are more willing to fly to you instead of shelling out cash for a long-distance flight to another country.

Con: You may need to provide accommodations for your family and out-of-town guests. So you may have to offer up your home for them to stay.

Planning

Pro: You will have more control over planning a wedding. The farther the venue and vendors are, the more likely a problem or miscommunication may arise.
