Things To Avoid for DIY Weddings

Everyone wants to be able to save money when it comes to planning for your wedding. Wedding expenses can add up, and they add up fast. So wherever and whenever you can, people try to save money. A lot of people do this by either cutting out certain things or by doing it themselves! However, DIY sometimes can do more harm than good. Here is a list of 5 Things to avoid when deciding to DIY.

DIY Wedding Dress

Your wedding dress is something that is so incredibly special for your big day! Getting to go try on dresses with your friends and family is part of the fun! Why miss out? However, some people feel bold enough to try and create their own wedding dress. Unless you are a fashion designer or already well-versed in the world of creating your own clothes, it is best to avoid trying to make your own dress. It will prevent your from hours of a sore back, pricked fingers, blood being spilled on your dress, and hours of crying. It will also prevent you from hours wasted if you hate how it comes out and also prevents wasted money on materials that you would have bought.

DIY Wedding Centerpieces

This is a common DIY option for many brides. They want to save money by creating their own centerpieces, everything from small monogrammed candies to floral arrangements. You may have even taken a workshop on how to place and work with flowers. But flowers can be really fussy and difficult to work with, because they can wilt, fade and even die in the process of making the arrangements. Something also may happen with the flowers, they could get crushed in some accident if you are trying to make them at home. Hundreds of dollars worth of flowers could just end up in the trash. Florists know the end and outs of flowers, so it is best to leave it to the professionals. Especially if you want flowers that are out of season and hard to come by.

DIY Wedding Catering

You may feel that it is cheaper to try and cook all the food yourself for your guests, but in the long run it may cost you more than you think. Prepping your food in your kitchen will be a many day process. You not only have to plan out the meal, but you also have to go out and buy all the ingredients. Prepare all the food, make sure that everything tastes good, and most importantly you have to make sure you have enough for everyone. Some of your guests may be hungrier than others so you also have to take that into account. There is also the very real possibility that you burn or ruin the food. This would not only ruin all of your hard work, but it takes a toll on you and causes your money to go down the drain. So it is best to skip the headache and hire an amazing caterer.

DIY Wedding Photography

This is one that I thoroughly stand by. Unless your distant family member or friend from high school is a professional photographer I recommend to use a professional! It may hurt some feelings when your baby cousin who just bought their first DSLR camera begs to photograph your wedding, but do not do it! Do not give in! Hiring a professional photographer will be one of the best investments that you make when it comes to planning the wedding of your dreams. These are photos that are a once in a lifetime chance, and you will be looking at them forever. So you want them to be amazing! You don’t want fuzzy photos, you are your new spouse aren’t even focused on in the picture but it sure got the tree behind you! Trust me, invest!

DIY Wedding Hair and Makeup

This is another thing that I stand by, get your hair and makeup done by a professional! Having your hair and makeup done by someone who knows what they are doing is another investment. This is one of the biggest days of your life, so you should get pampered and have your hair beautifully curled by someone else. You will also be taking a lot of photos, before the ceremony, during the ceremony, after the ceremony, and during the reception. So you need to not only look amazing, but you also need to make sure your makeup stays on all night! A lot of professional makeup artists have the secret to looking flawless all day long, and this will benefit you in the long run. So not only do you look stunning, but you will look stunning in your photos that you will have forever.
