What To Wear To Your Vintage Engagement Session

It is always such an exciting event when it comes to getting your engagement photos done! The first question to pop in your head will be “what should I wear”? And you may be tempted to go out on a shopping spree, however you should first decide which look you and your spouse-to-be are going for. Here are some things to keep in mind!

Be Yourself

Make sure to wear clothes that make you feel like you. For example if you are a T-shirt and jeans enthusiast, wearing a gown and tux may not be for you. You should feel comfortable in your clothes. You can still dress up since it is a once-in-a-lifetime occasion and you want your pictures to be perfect. Find an outfit that suits your personality and your spouses. If they don’t look comfortable in their clothes, it will show that through their pictures as well, and they won’t come out as good as they hoped.

Matching

When it comes to choosing outfits, make sure you take into consideration how your outfits will look together. This is important because you both don’t want to match exactly and you don’t want either of you completely opposite of each other. If you dress completely different from each other then it won’t look natural in the photos. But also if you are too matchy-matchy then neither of you will stand out. The key here is to compliment each other! Wear similar outfits but nothing too extreme. Patterned prints should be out of the picture too.

Colors for Wardrobe

Here are some tips when it comes to color schemes. You should avoid wearing anything that is neon. Neon is just not a flattering color for most people. Orange is also a color you should try to avoid, it can be the least photogenic color. You want to stand out more than your shirt. The goal is to make you both stand out as a couple and your love to be the center of attention. The recommended colors for your photo session include cool hues, pastels and neutral colors!

Color Schemes

When considering your wardrobe, it is best to look into different color schemes. You don’t want your wardrobe to be too colorful or overwhelming to the eye. If you and your spouse love the darker colors, stick to black, purple, white and grey. Or if you are into cooler colors, then consider blues and greens. How about a rustic look? Then stick to neutral colors such as browns, greys and add a little splash of color to avoid your photos coming out too monotoned.

Accessories

Accessories are important! It is fun to dress up and wear beautiful earrings and a necklace to compliment your new engagement ring. However, if you are not the type to accessorize, or maybe you aren’t savvy in that area, try to include at least one other accessory to the ring. By adding a stylish scarf or a big necklace, it will add to your look! The pictures will come out amazing as you compliment your body features!

Props

Vintage engagement sessions give you the opportunity to bring in a punch of style so take it! Rummage through thrift shops or, even better, Grandma’s attic for fun props that harken back to the good ‘ol days. Feel free to take a look at our gallery if you need some prop inspiration. We’ve seen it all and have some of the best vintage wedding props around. Our favorite is the blue bicycle with a basket full of flowers.
