Here are some of the top things to expect at an upcoming wedding dress fitting.

Wedding dress fittings can be fun, overwhelming, nerve wracking, and so much more. If you’re not sure what to expect at a bridal fitting, then you’ve come to the right place. In this blog, we’re going to go over some of the most common things that are done at fittings.

Wedding Dress Fittings

Many people choose to get their wedding dress tailored so that it fits them perfectly (or at least close to perfectly). If you’ve never gone to a dress fitting before, then you’re probably wondering what’s going to happen. Let’s go over some of the things that you should expect at your wedding dress fitting.

Assessing the Dress

One of the first things that a seamstress is going to do is look at your dress. They’re going to assess the material, the stitching, how it was constructed, and more. This is an important part of the process, as your seamstress will then most likely start pinning the dress…

Pinning

During the pinning process, you’ll most likely be standing on a pedestal or wearing the shoes you’ll wear on your big day (more on that in a second). The pinning process may be quick or extensive, depending on how much work needs to be done to your dress.

While your seamstress is pinning, make sure to point out anything that you notice or anything that you don’t like. It may be difficult to make changes later, so it’s important to make sure that you’re clear and honest with your seamstress.

Bring Your Shoes

It’s typically recommended that you bring the shoes you’re planning on wearing to your fittings. This is the best way to make sure that the dress is the exact length you want it to be and that it makes sense with the shoes you’re going to be wearing.

Even if you don’t have the exact pair of shoes picked out, you should bring a pair that’s a similar style. This is still better than nothing and can give your seamstress a better idea of exactly how long your wedding dress should be.

Practice Movements

While you’re at your fitting, make sure that you practice movements like hugging or reaching for something on a shelf. This is a good way to make sure that your dress won’t slip and that it’s truly fitting you well.

Bring Undergarments

Just like you should bring your shoes, it’s also important to make sure that you bring any undergarments you’re planning on wearing. While it’s okay if you don’t have these picked out yet, it can be extremely helpful to have them on hand so that the seamstress can know exactly how your dress should fit.

Especially if you’re going to be wearing shapewear, it’s important to make sure that you come to your fitting prepared with the undergarments. Your fitting is also a great time to do some experimenting if you’re not sure which undergarment option you want to go with.
