Creating the Perfect Wedding Hashtag
Lately, we’re all into wedding hashtags for all the life they bring to the party. Not only that, but it’s an amazing way to find wedding inspiration and real-life weddings across all your favorite social media channels.
Why do you need one?
Well, if we are being honest, you don’t NEED one. But in today’s social media-driven world, hashtags are a wonderful way to:
- Have easy access to all the photos taken on your big day by your guests.
- Allow people who couldn’t make it to your wedding to share in the big day.
- Have some fun with words!
Where can it be used?
The most common places you’ll find hashtags used are:
For wedding purposes, you’ll mostly be using these on Facebook and Instagram, unless you have some friends who might be live tweeting your wedding (hey, you truly never know these days).
As far as photos, you’ll be able to go back and grab photos under your hashtag before yours come back from your photographer, and it’s a wonderful way to get a glimpse of your day through the eyes of your guests. You’ll get to see just how good you looked in that dress!
How can you create one?
Let’s say coming up with a creative play on words isn’t your strong suit. That’s okay! There are other ways to find your tag. First, decide what you’re going for. Something sweet and subtle? Or something punny?
Make it a contest!
Your friends would LOVE to get in on this action. Create a thread on social media and ask for ideas! Are you throwing an engagement party? Use that opportunity to have everyone throw their ideas onto paper and into a hat! You’ll have a BLAST reading them aloud at the party, or going through them privately with your sweetie later. Who better to hashtag your wedding than your closest friends? Winner gets a signature drink named after them at the wedding!

Believe it or not, these are a thing now. Of course they are! Hashtags are life in 2019. Make a night of it! Pour some glasses of wine, sit down with your significant other, and browse the interwebs for all of the generators and see what they come up with! Some of them have some pretty solid suggestions!

Okay, so maybe you’re more creative than you think… You can do this! Think about using alliteration. Combine last names to come up with a punny phrase. Maybe reference a movie?
“When ____ Met _______”, perhaps? There’s definitely some satisfaction in coming up with the perfect hashtag on your own, and it can be a very fun and memorable process. Take your time with it! You shouldn’t need it until the actual wedding (unless you want it used at the shower, too!).
And if all else fails, reference your wedding venue in the hashtag!
