Did you know that surprise weddings are a thing?!
Yes! They totally are. As a matter of fact, my best friend just had a surprise wedding. There are a few different ways to pull off a surprise wedding, but no matter what way you choose, it’ll be the talk of the town for quite a while to come. Just think of how much fun it would be to have a sign out front that says “Welcome to our wedding!” And you could station your photographer to capture the expressions on your guests faces as they learn your surprise! And think of all the laughs you’ll get to have that day as you get to enjoy the surprise unfolding throughout the day.
To add to the fun, Pinterest has hidden boards where you can plan away to your heart’s content and no one will be the wiser. It just might be the perfect way for an introvert to plan her dream wedding. While you’re engaged, everyone wants to know every detail you’re planning of your wedding day. But let’s be honest, somewhere deep down in there, you probably want everyone to show up to your wedding and experience it’s beauty first hand, instead of already making assumptions based on descriptions you told them 3 months earlier. This way you get to skip all the chit chat and get right to the heart of the matter: gorgeous vintage weddings.
Plus, you can plan a surprise wedding so much faster than a conventional wedding, especially if you are planning on an intimate guest list.
Option #1
You invite your favorite friends and family to a “surprise party” and give them a very clear hint about the attire you’d like them to wear. They’ll think you have some big announcement to make (like you got engaged or something…) or maybe someone has a birthday coming up that they forgot about. You let them in on the surprise as they arrive and they all start their conversation with “I didn’t know you….”
Option #2
You tell your nearest and dearest friends and family that you can trust with your life. You’ll probably need help planning such a big surprise, anyway. (This is what my best friend did, as her sister made some sentimental items for the wedding). Then, when the extended friends and family get there, they get to be part of the “in” crowd and it feels like an intimate occasion (and you don’t have to worry about mom or dad being upset. ;) )
Surprise Vintage Weddings
Option #3
Elope. That’s right. Grab your officiant, and your photographers and head to the most beautiful lakeside venue you can find. You’ll want to make sure there is a place where you can get ready and it would be amazing if you had a private area or two where you could get some breathtaking photos and/or get married. Your wedding photos would be one-of-a-kind and your catering bill would be next to nil for a world class dinner. And if you think mom and dad wouldn’t be a fan, you can always bring them along, too. Too bad there’s not a venue out there that was accustomed to hosting gorgeous outdoor vintage weddings that was already decorated in the perfect rustic/vintage wedding style. I bet it would be called “Spring Lake” or something like that….
What a great idea, you say? What if you could just go ahead and get married in a couple of months, since surprise weddings are so easy to plan? Too bad we don’t have anything open in…..wait! We do have something available in October 2015. But don’t worry if you don’t get to claim the 10/18/15 wedding date in time. You can always plan a surprise wedding for 2016.
